Big name retailers and health insurance companies are looking to team up to replace the role of primary care physicians. But, what does this means for patients and doctors?
Many patients have ditched their Doctor’s offices for urgent care centers or “minute” clinics because of convenience, cost, and what they see as quality care. This shift in preference towards urgent care facilities has prompted deals between retailers like CVS and Walmart with health insurance companies such as Aetna and Humana.
Critics of urgent care express concerns such as Doctor’s wrongly prescribing medication, physicians not fully understanding a patient’s medical history, and the disconnect of not being able to build a relationship that is present in primary care facilities.
