Responsibilities:

  • Triage patients based on care priority and appointment type
  • Determine urgency of drop-in visits
  • Screen incoming phone calls
  • Organize orthopedic schedules and appointments
  • Order copies of relevant outside film needed prior to appointment
  • Gather films for daily scheduled appointments
  • Acquire operation notes, ER reports, and consults
  • Help schedule follow-up appointments and consultation appointments with specialist for patients
  • Coordinate with other departments to schedule tests and studies as necessary
  • Provide pre and post-operative care instructions, including necessary paperwork
  • Assist during minor procedures, including assembling the equipment
  • Take vitals and necessary measurements
  • Help orthopedic surgeon with reduction of fractures and dislocations
  • Change dressings, care for wounds, and remove staples/sutures from post-op patients
  • Fit and educate patients on their given orthopedic devices and adjust as needed
  • Educate patients in basic PT exercises
  • Prepare patients for cast application by covering injured areas with specific protective materials
  • Mold plaster bandages and trim plaster
  • Provide instructions on caring for cast
  • Alter cast position to change setting of limb or body part as directed
  • Assemble various materials to make orthopedic splints
  • Order and manage equipment inventory  
  • Clean and re-stock exam rooms
  • Provide cover for medical and surgical assistants as needed
  • Carry out all job duties in compliance with federal, state, local, and company policies

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Orthopedic Training Program and Certification by NBCOT preferable
  • Certified in CPR
  • 2 or more years of related experience
  • Strong ability to apply, remove, and repair all types of casts
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft office and various databases used for health info retrieval
  • MA experience preferred
