Develops mechanisms to assess patients (and families) response to nursing care and validates that care provided to patients is consistent with nursing care plan, medical treatment, and is responsive to patient and family expectations.
Monitors financial performance (expenses, revenues, and productivity) and justifies monthly budget variances.
Facilitates multidisciplinary care to ensure the best possible outcome for patients.
Ensures that staffing patterns meet work requirements and that all employee are competent (annually training, and annual performance evaluations are complete).
Assumes accountability for all relevant personnel functions as appropriate; i.e., recruitment, hiring, firing, evaluating, counseling, and educating with primary emphasis placed on staff retention.
Assumes accountability for remaining current regarding standards of care established by the profession, regulatory & accreditation bodies and hospital policy and procedures.
Directs unit-based performance improvement and patient/employee safety programs and projects.
Identifies patient and employee safety risks and makes changes to reduce.
Holds staff accountable for patient and employee safety standards, policies, procedures and practices.
Provides coaching and education to staff so that they can meet/exceed performance expectations.
Ability to facilitate involvement and participation on the part of key stakeholders (e.g. staff involvement in committee, project work) to achieve the unit, nursing division and hospital goals and objectives.
At least 3 years of management experience of an inpatient psychiatric unit
Solid knowledge of DMH standards and audits
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required
Masters Degree is preferred
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current State of Massachusetts Registered Nurse licensure.
Clinical Experience in acute psychiatric care required.
Demonstrated knowledge of clinical and professional practice issues and processes.
